Globalization has lowered prices for consumers, but it has also exposed workers in advanced economies to competition they cannot easily adjust to.
Globalization benefits all participants equally, since lower consumer prices offset job losses in manufacturing.
Apple's advantage lay not in any single component but in its ability to ___1___ hardware, software and services into one experience. Rivals that excelled at one piece often failed to ___2___ the whole, and their market share ___3___ once users were locked into a rival ecosystem.
Creativity in business is less a matter of inspiration than of method. Design thinking turns a vague complaint from customers into a testable prototype within weeks, and each round of testing narrows the gap between what a firm assumes and what users actually need.
mass customization 大规模定制 · modularity 模块化 · build-to-order 按单生产 · postponement 延迟策略 · supply chain 供应链 · lead time 交货周期 · lean production 精益生产 · economies of scale 规模经济 · economies of scope 范围经济 · configuration 配置
What turned an isolated incident into a corporate crisis was not the initial failure but the weeks of inconsistent statements that followed it.
The author's attitude towards platforms' role in public discourse is best described as ______.
Ethical lapses rarely stay contained. A single bribery case can disqualify a firm from public tenders, trigger years of monitoring, and destroy the trust that took decades to build — which is why compliance is better understood as an asset than as a cost.
According to the passage, compliance programmes are primarily a public-relations exercise.

Clean technology has never lacked engineering solutions; what it has lacked is a stable policy signal that allows firms to justify long-term capital investment.
What emerging-market multinationals lack in brand heritage they often make up for in speed of adaptation and cost discipline.

integrate A into B / access to / rely on / at the expense of。 |
| 4 | 逻辑校验 | 5 分钟 | 填完回读,专看连接词:but / because / although / as a result。
|---|---|
| integrate A into B 把 A 整合进 B | a profound impact on 对……
| adapt to 适应 | a viable alternative 可行的替代方案 |
| attribute A to B 把 A 归因于 B | a sustainable advantage 可持续优势 |
| result in / result from 导致 / 源于 | intense competition 激烈竞争 |
| account for 占(比例);解释 | a substantial share 相当大的份额 |
| give rise to 引起 | a pressing issue 紧迫问题 |
| come at the expense of 以……
| be subject to 受制于 | a marked decline 明显下滑 |
| be exposed to 暴露于 | a modest increase 小幅增长 |
| capitalise on 利用 | a level playing field 公平竞争环境 |
| cope with 应对 | a far-reaching consequence 深远后果 |
| impose A on B 把 A 强加于 B | a compelling case 有说服力的理由 |
| deprive A of B 剥夺 A 的 B | mounting pressure 越来越大的压力 |
| restrict A to B 把 A 限制在 B | underlying assumption 隐含假设 |

|---|---|
| 转折 | however, nevertheless, nonetheless, whereas, by contrast, on the contrary |
| 因果 | therefore, consequently, as a result, hence, thereby, stem from, give rise to |
| 让步 | although, albeit, while, even so, admittedly |
| 递进 | moreover, furthermore, in addition, what is more |
| 举例 | for instance, a case in point, such as, notably |
| 总结 | in short, ultimately, on balance, in the final analysis |
For most of the past two decades, the received wisdom was that manufacturing would migrate to wherever costs were lowest. That assumption is now being ___1___. Rising wages in traditional low-cost hubs, combined with shipping disruptions and geopolitical risk, have ___2___ companies to reconsider how far a supply chain should stretch. The result is not a ___3___ retreat from globalisation but a selective shortening of it: firms ___4___ to keep core production closer to their main markets while ___5___ labour-intensive stages in lower-cost regions.
This shift carries a ___6___ cost. Duplicating capacity is expensive, and the ___7___ of scale that came from concentrating production is partly lost. Managers must therefore weigh resilience ___8___ efficiency — a trade-off that is easier to state than to ___9___. What makes the calculation harder still is that the benefits of resilience are largely ___10___: they show up as disasters that did not happen.

【Passage】A study of 240 firms found that those which shortened their supply chains after 2020 recovered from disruptions 30% faster than peers that did not. The authors caution, however, that shorter chains are not universally cheaper: in three of the four sectors examined, unit costs rose by between 4% and 9%. They conclude that resilience should be treated as an insurance premium rather than a cost-saving measure, and that firms operating on thin margins may reasonably choose to accept higher disruption risk.
| 细节题 | according to the passage / why / how many | 关键词定位 → 同义替换比对;答案一定在文中某一句里 |
| 词义题 | the word "X" in line N is closest in meaning to | 回该句看搭配与褒贬;用上下文替换测试,不通就换 |
| 态度题 | attitude / tone / the author seems to | 先排极端项(unreservedly / entirely / hostile),再看是否有让步 |
例 1 What makes the calculation harder still is that the benefits of resilience are largely intangible.
拆:What makes … still(主语从句,作主语)+ is(系动词)+ that 从句(表语)。
2 Firms that had shortened their supply chains recovered 30% faster than peers that had not.
拆:Firms(主)[that 定语] recovered(谓)30% faster(状)+ than peers [that 定语]。
3 Not until the costs of disruption became visible on balance sheets did boards treat resilience as a strategic issue.
拆:Not until 置句首 → 主句部分倒装(did boards treat)。
【Passage】When the pandemic disrupted shipping in 2020, many procurement teams discovered that they did not know where their components actually came from. Tier-one suppliers were mapped; tier-two and tier-three suppliers were not. In one European automaker's audit, a single brake component traced back to eleven firms across four countries, two of which had no substitute. The lesson was not that global supply chains are inherently fragile, but that visibility, not distance, determines vulnerability. Firms that invested in mapping their sub-tier suppliers recovered faster than those that simply moved production home. Relocating a plant is expensive and slow; mapping a supply network is cheap by comparison, yet it is the step most often skipped because its benefits are invisible until a crisis arrives.

Some people believe that companies should prioritise efficiency over resilience in their supply chains. What is your view?
Few issues have attracted as much managerial attention in recent years as the balance between efficiency and resilience in supply chains. While some argue that cost advantage should come first, I believe that a degree of resilience is now indispensable.
Admittedly, lean operations deliver real benefits. Holding minimal inventory and concentrating production lowers unit costs and frees capital for investment, and for firms in stable markets this approach has worked for decades. This argument, however, overlooks how quickly a single disruption can erase years of savings. When shipping routes close or a sub-tier supplier fails, the cost of restarting production far exceeds the inventory that was saved.
The primary reason resilience deserves priority is that visibility, rather than distance, determines vulnerability. A manufacturer that knows where its components come from can reroute in weeks; one that does not may need months. A case in point is the automaker whose brake component traced back to eleven suppliers across four countries, two of them irreplaceable.
In conclusion, efficiency and resilience need not be opposites, provided that firms map their supply networks before a crisis rather than after it.
What problems does remote work create for team management, and how can managers address them?
Remote work has moved from an emergency arrangement to a permanent feature of many organisations, and with it a set of management problems that face-to-face offices used to solve automatically.
The first problem is the loss of informal communication. In an office, a misunderstanding is often corrected in a two-minute conversation; on a distributed team, it may persist for days. The second is uneven visibility: employees who speak up in meetings are noticed, while quiet contributors become invisible at promotion time. A third problem is the blurring of boundaries, which raises the risk of burnout.
These problems call for deliberate substitutes for what the office provided. Managers can schedule short, frequent check-ins so that small issues surface early. They can evaluate output against agreed objectives rather than presence, which makes contribution visible regardless of volume. And they can set explicit expectations about response times, protecting employees from the pressure of permanent availability.
None of these measures is expensive; what they require is consistency. Remote management fails less often because of technology than because managers assume that old habits will survive the change of setting.
First / The second / A third

A company's reputation is often described as intangible, yet it behaves like an asset with a measurable ___1___. When a firm handles a recall well, customers forgive it; when it ___2___, the damage outlasts the product failure itself. The difference rarely lies in the severity of the incident. It lies in how quickly and how ___3___ the company communicates.
Crisis teams that rehearse regularly respond faster because they have already decided who speaks, to whom, and with what authority. Those that have not rehearsed tend to ___4___ conflicting statements, which the media then ___5___ as evidence of concealment. A single inconsistent message can ___6___ weeks of careful disclosure.
The temptation in the first hours is to say as little as possible until the facts are clear. That instinct is understandable but ___7___: silence is interpreted as guilt. What customers actually need is not a complete explanation but a credible ___8___ — an acknowledgement, a commitment, and a date. Firms that offer these three things early usually ___9___ far less reputation than those that wait for certainty. Certainty, after all, arrives ___10___ the story has already been written.

【Passage】The passage above argues that crisis communication depends less on the severity of an incident than on speed and consistency. It notes that rehearsed teams respond faster, that inconsistent statements are read as concealment, and that silence tends to be interpreted as guilt. The author concedes that waiting for certainty is understandable, but insists that customers need acknowledgement, commitment and a date rather than a complete explanation.
【Passage】Mass customisation sounds like a contradiction. Mass production succeeds by making identical units cheaply; customisation succeeds by making different units profitably. The reconciliation lies in modularity. If a product can be assembled from standard modules in many combinations, variety costs little more than uniformity, because the expensive part — the design of each module — is shared.
The limits are practical rather than conceptual. Every additional option multiplies the number of configurations a factory must handle, and complexity has a way of migrating from the production line to the supply chain. A carmaker offering a thousand variants must hold components for all of them, forecast demand for each, and promise delivery dates it can keep. Firms that fail to manage this complexity end up with the worst of both models: customised prices and mass-production delays.
The most successful practitioners therefore restrict choice deliberately. They offer customers a curated set of combinations rather than unlimited freedom, and they invest in configuration tools that make the chosen option buildable. In this sense, mass customisation is less about giving customers what they want than about designing what they are allowed to want.
