Part II 阅读理解(每题 2 分,共 8 分)

A mid-sized furniture maker in Foshan has seen its order book grow by a third since it began accepting small, mixed orders from overseas buyers. The change was forced on it: two of its three largest clients cut their volumes in 2024, leaving nearly 40% of capacity idle. Rather than reduce staff, the management decided to chase smaller buyers — showrooms, boutique hotels and online retailers — who order in quantities of fifty to two hundred units rather than thousands.

The switch has not been cheap. Setting up a dedicated small-order line cost about 3 million yuan, and unit production costs rose by roughly 9%. Delivery times, however, fell from sixty days to twenty-five, because small batches move through the plant faster. Within eighteen months, the small-order segment accounted for 45% of revenue.

The general manager is cautious about calling this a success story. "We are still a factory, not a design house," she says. "Small orders only pay if we can keep the line full every week. One quiet month and the maths collapse."

  1. What forced the company to change its strategy?
    A. A rise in production costs B. A sharp fall in orders from major clients C. Government pressure D. Competition from online retailers
  2. What happened to unit production costs after the change?
    A. They fell by 9% B. They remained unchanged C. They rose by about 9% D. They doubled
  3. Why did delivery times shorten?
    A. The company hired more staff B. Small batches move through the plant faster C. Overseas buyers were closer D. The plant was enlarged
  4. What does the general manager imply in the last paragraph?
    A. The strategy has fully succeeded B. The company should become a design house C. The model depends on continuous order flow D. Small orders are more profitable per unit

Part II 阅读理解(每题 2 分,共 8 分)

The domestic coffee market grew by 6.2% in volume last year, well below the 11% recorded a year earlier. Value growth, however, held at 9.1%, indicating that consumers are trading up rather than buying more.

Chain stores continued to expand, opening 420 new outlets, while the number of independent shops fell by 3%. Online sales, still only 7% of the total, grew fastest at 24%. Analysts warn that the market is approaching saturation in tier-one cities, where there are already 3.4 outlets per 10,000 residents — close to the level seen in Seoul. Future growth is therefore expected to come from lower-tier cities and from prepared drinks rather than packaged beans.

  1. What does the gap between volume and value growth suggest?
    A. Consumers are buying more often B. Consumers are spending more per purchase C. Prices are falling D. The market is shrinking
  2. Which channel grew fastest?
    A. Chain stores B. Independent shops C. Online sales D. Prepared drinks
  3. Why is the market described as approaching saturation in tier-one cities?
    A. Sales have fallen B. Outlet density is close to that of Seoul C. Consumers have stopped buying coffee D. Chain stores are closing

Part II 阅读理解(每题 2 分,共 8 分)

When a Shenzhen electronics group bought a smaller German competitor in 2023, the stated aim was technology. Two years on, the more valuable gain has turned out to be something else: a distribution network reaching twenty-two European markets that would have taken a decade to build from scratch.

The integration was not smooth. Half of the German management team left within a year, largely because reporting lines were redrawn in Shenzhen and decisions that had once taken a week began to take a month. Sales fell 6% in the first year, and the group came close to closing two of the acquired plants.

What saved the deal was a decision to leave the German sales force untouched. Local account managers kept their clients, their contracts and their commission structure. By the second year, sales had recovered and the acquired business was contributing a fifth of group revenue. The lesson is unglamorous: buyers usually overestimate what they can centralise and underestimate what depends on relationships.

  1. What turned out to be the most valuable asset acquired?
    A. Factory capacity B. A European distribution network C. Patents D. Brand name
  2. Why did half of the German managers leave?
    A. They were dismissed B. Pay was cut C. Decision-making became slower and reporting lines changed D. The plants were closed
  3. What does "unglamorous" most nearly mean?
    A. Obvious but dull B. Attractive C. Expensive D. Temporary
  4. What is the main lesson of the passage?
    A. Cross-border deals usually fail B. Buyers overvalue central control and undervalue local relationships C. German staff are hard to manage D. Technology is more important than distribution
卷三 Part II 答案
1-B("the more valuable gain ... a distribution network reaching twenty-two European markets")|2-C("reporting lines were redrawn ... decisions ... began to take a month")|3-A("unglamorous"=不惊艳、朴素但实在,与 A 最接近)|4-B(末句原意)
